COMBINED EFFORT TOWARDS CREATING A CLEANER AND GREENER SOCIETY With a felt need to strengthen the capacity and resiliency of different sections of the society to maintain a clean, safe and greener environment in our cities, AIDA-Child Friendly Dimapur in collaboration with Nagaland Pollution Control Board (NPCB) has organized a workshop on 1st May 2024 at City Law College, Burma Camp, Dimapur on the theme, “Right to Life, Survival and Development”. Raise awareness on clean environment, mobilize the power of networking with different section of the society and create empathy and a sense of responsible citizenship towards creating a clean and safe environment for the children. A total of 34 students and faculties from City Law College attended the workshop. The resource persons for the workshop were Ms.Olivi G Chophy, Senior Scientific Assistant, NPCB, Mr.Yanathung Kithan, Scientist ‘B’ NPCB and Ms.Rongsenben Longkumer, Junior Scientific Assistant, NPCB who have stressed on meaningful topics i.e. Ambient Air Quality, Solid Waste Management and Mission Life. During the sessions led by the resource persons, the participants were erudite on Air pollution: types of air pollution, causes, its effect on human life, meaningful ways to reduce air pollution and SDG 12, 13, 14, 15, Waste management: Waste segregation, ways to compose food waste and solid waste, National Green Tribunal Order, waste management scenario in Nagaland, Mission Life: Mission Life – Global movement to safeguard our environment from the impact of climate change, 7 themes of Mission Life i.e. Save Energy, Save water, Say No to Single Use Plastic, Reduce E-Waste, Adopt sustainable food systems, Reduce Waste and Adopt Healthy Lifestyles. The sessions were indeed very handy as it was not merely sharing, it included proficient power point with informative data and pictorial presentations making the sessions more informative and interesting. Mrs. Elizabeth Thungchanbeni E. Ezung, Assistant Professor, City Law College, while delivering the welcome address, enlightened the participants on the history and the objective of commemorating International Labour Day i.e. to honour the working class and commemorate their struggles for fair wages and better working condition. She also emphasized on the theme of International Labour Day 2024, “Ensuring safety and health at work in a changing climate” and encouraged the aspiring Lawyers to be educated and acquaint oneself with Labour Law to help the workers and ensure social justice in the society. Ms.Mechietonü Agnes, Civil Society Mobilization Officer, CFD moderated the workshop, Ms.Garrol Lotha, Project Coordinator, CFD shared on the concept of Child Friendly Dimapur and stressed on the theme for the workshop with special emphasis on the 4 guiding principles of United Nation Convention on the Rights of the Child i.e. Non Discrimination, Right to Life, Survival and Development, Best Interest of the Child and Respect for the views of the child. The program concluded with an interactive session where the participants put forward their querries which were responded by the resource person with great attention. Which was then followed by vote of thanks by Mr.Gaisanglung Kamei, Civil Society Mobilization Officer, CFD.
