Collaborative Measures Towards Creating Child Friendly Cities
One day workshop for the Traffic personnals was organized by AIDA-Child Friendly Dimapur in collaboration with Dimapur District Legal Services Authority (DDLSA) on 26th April 2024 at AIDA training hall under the theme, “Safeguarding of Children”. The main objective of organizing the workshop was to furnish the Traffic Police Personnel on Child Rights to ensure betterment protection of Children and, create amicable environment for the children in the cities. The workshop was attended by Traffic Police Personnel from Dimapur and Chumoukedima Districts.
Rev.Fr.Roy George while addressing the officials welcomed the participants headed by Mr.Yanbemo Ngullie, Panel Lawyer, Dimapur District Legal Services Authority (DDLSA), Smt. Ngimchule Nampeung, Assistant Commissioner of Police, Traffic Dimapur, Smt. Medemkala, Assistant Commissioner of Police, Traffic, Chumoukedima and Traffic Police personnel’s from Dimapur and Chumoukedima. He has also briefed on the objective of ANMA Integrated Development Association (AIDA), Child Friendly Dimapur as well as the main intend of organizing the workshop. He then encouraged the participants to identify collaborative measures to promote child rights and creating child friendly cities.
While speaking as a resource person, Mr. Yanbemo Ngullie, Panel Lawyer, Dimapur District Legal Services Authority (DDLSA) shared on “The Rights of the Children”. He also shared about Juvenile Justice Act (JJA), Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO Act) and Right to Education Act. He also emphasized on two categories of child labor- bounded labor and force labor. Addresses the Right to Education Act, which mandates that all children in institutions between the ages of six to fourteen get free, mandatory education. In order to ensure children's safety, he stressed on the importance of educating children on good and bad touch. He also provided an example, pointing out that just as charity starts at home, so does education.
He furthermore emphasized on equality and procedure of tackling juvenile delinquency. He also encourages all the Traffic Police Personnel to report any cases of children and it’s mandatory for everyone in the society. Later, an open discussion was initiated where queries related to Child Rights was put forward by the traffic police officials to the resource person.
As a concluding remark on the event, Smt. Ngimchule Nampeung, Assistant Commissioner of Police, Traffic Dimapur shared on the initiatives of the Traffic personnals towards creating our cities safer as well as appreciated the personals for their unseen and unsung contributions towards the society. She also appreciated AIDA-Child Friendly Dimapur for all the efforts rendering towards creating child friendly cities as well as expressed her willingness to support the team towards educating and strengthening our society through collaborations.
Earlier, Sr.Jisha Joseph, Children Mobilization Officer, Child Friendly Dimapur has highlighted on the concept as well as the vision of AIDA-Child Friendly Dimapur. While Ms.Mechietonu Agnes Kiso, Civil Society Mobilization Officer gave a vote of thanks.Ms.Garrol Lotha, Project Coordinator, Child Friendly Dimapur Civil Society Mobilization Officer diligently moderated the workshop.
